No quorum means no meeting for Marion Council on Monday

Marion City Council was set to meet this Monday night, April 3, for the first of its two regularly-scheduled monthly meetings in April.

The scheduled meeting would have been the first after a particularly contentious one in March, at which the mayor, council, and clerk debated the purchase of two HVAC units for the Old Depot building, which the city owns.

At the close of that meeting, City Clerk Laura Hinton said “we’ll do [the] research” on the matter and return with a report at the council’s next meeting.

The agenda for Monday night’s scheduled meeting, however, did not include any discussion of the matter.

That agenda became a moot point as the meeting’s appointed time approached, and it became apparent that not enough members of the city council would be there to hold a meeting.

Mayor Dexter Hinton and Councilmembers Arrington and Kennie were in attendance, but Councilmembers Pearson, Jackson, and Nail were absent. The council’s next scheduled meeting is set for Monday night, April 17.
