Valerie Burnes of Livingston, a professor at the University of West Alabama, was among the speakers on hand for the Perry County Historical and Preservation Society’s program on historic apparel last Thursday night, Oct. 26. Burnes is pictured with three 19th century dresses on display at the Society’s headquarters, the old Marion Female Seminary Building. A gift of antique display cases by the Nyman family, in addition to gifts of historical clothing items, gave the impetus for the program, which included three other speakers and homemade refreshments. Burnes signed copies of her book, ‘Visions of the Black Belt,’ now in its second printing. Copies are available for purchase from Historical Society members.
