A water project slated for the North end of Highway 183, towards Chilton County. The $1.7 million project will be coming to Perry County’s third district after the Perry County Commission received confirmation of the project’s go-ahead from Montgomery- based contractor Goodwyn Mills. Initially there were delays from the State in providing easements for the project, according to Cedric Campbell, vice president of Goodwyn Mills. Now the contractors will be opening the project for bids beginning in October with a contract to be awarded afterwards.
Perry County will provide $200,000 for the project, with a vote slated for the adoption of an amendment to redistribute 6-inch pipes over the project. ADECA, which allocated $400,000 towards the project, has approved the amendment. The amendment allows for both fire protections and water service throughout the area where the project will be constructed. Chairman Albert Turner, Jr., requested the amendment, alongside the additional pipes, providing the additional funds alongside the ADECA funding.
However, the announcement of a USDA grant for the construction of the Jonny L. Flowers Highway Department will be the next federal grant announcement from the county, before the North Perry pipe replacement project will take place. There is already a preliminary sketch for the design of the new highway department facilities. Construction is slated to begin in December of this year, 2024, with a completion date slated for the fall of 2025.
