National Parks Service awards $750k towards preservation of Lincoln School campus in Marion

The Lincolnite Club, Inc. has been awarded a $750,000 grant by the National Park Service through the Historic Preservation Fund. The funds will support phase III of the rehabilitation of the Historic Lincoln Normal School Gymnasium. Planned repairs include reinforcing steel structures, brick repointing and cleaning, concrete floor repair, drainage improvements, exterior door repairs, and preparation for future building systems replacement. This initiative aims to transform the gymnasium into a Multi- Purpose Community Center, emphasizing the history and struggle for voting and civil rights in Marion, Perry County, Alabama.
