Canceled meeting means city may not fix sewer line until after Aug. 21

Marion City Council’s first meeting for the month of August, scheduled to be held this past Monday night, was canceled due to lack of a quorum. At least three city councilmembers had informed City Hall prior to the meeting that they would not be able to attend. By law, at least four members of a five-member mayor and council body must be present to constitute a quorum.

The canceled meeting meant the city would not be able to vote that night on the repair of a broken sewage line in the Clay Street area. Neighborhood residents have reported the issue to City Hall, and the smell of sewage was noticeable in the area as of press time. The council’s next scheduled meeting is set for Monday, August 21.
