Marion out of woods on water woes, for now, after boil notice and broken line

After days of water-related issues, the City of Marion announced on its official Facebook page Friday, Sept. 15 that the boil water advisory, which was issued on Wednesday, Sept. 13, at 12:30 p.m., has been officially lifted. The advisory had been put in place due to concerns about water quality after low chlorine levels were detected.

After press time last week, on Sept. 14, it was revealed that contractors working on construction at Marion Military Institute accidentally damaged a city water main, causing large portions of the city to experience low pressure and outages. This incident further exacerbated the water service issues that the city was already grappling with.

The city has since announced that bacteria test samples have tested negative, confirming the water’s safety. The hard copy results from the collected samples, as provided by the testing lab, will be made available to the public upon receipt, said the announcement.
