Perry 4-H member wins first at State Fur & Feathers Show

Fredrick Lawson

Fredrick Lawson, a 4-H member from Perry County, earned a first-place blue ribbon at the State 4-H Fur & Feathers Show on Friday, December 6th, in Montgomery, AL. Lawson took top honors in the Junior category of Artistic Expression-Rabbit Showmanship, where six participants were tasked with displaying their creativity through a medium other than photography or traditional artwork.

The theme for the category required exhibitors to create a piece that depicted rabbits or poultry, while demonstrating their unique artistic skills. Lawson’s entry stood out for its exceptional creativity and originality. The pieces also captivated judges with its power to attract attention and sustain the viewer’s interest, a key component in the judging criteria.

The Artistic Expression category in the Junior Division is designed to encourage participants to think outside the box and apply their artistic talents in new and innovative ways. Lawson’s winning submission perfectly met the challenge, displaying an impressive level of craftsmanship in the category of Rabbit Showmanship. The combination of originality and visual appeal set Lawson’s work apart, securing the top honor at the event.

As part of the State 4-H Fur & Feathers Show, the Artistic Expression competition provides a valuable opportunity for youth to explore and develop their talents in a creative environment. For Fredrick Lawson, winning the firstplace blue ribbon is a wellearned recognition of his hard work, artistic ability, and passion for the 4-H program.

Lawson’s achievement highlights his artistic talents and reflects the vibrancy of Alabama 4-H, which empowers youth to become resilient, lifelong learners who set goals and shape their own futures. Alabama 4-H equips young people with the skills to lead in their communities, state, nation, and beyond.

Fredrick is the son of Fredrick Sr. and Yolonda Lawson and is a student at R.C. Hatch School in Uniontown, AL.
