The Into Light Project art exhibit will be presented at Engle Gallery November 1 through November 23, 1301 Main Street, Greensboro AL 36744. This is the work of a national non profit that creates public exhibitions of original portraits and individual stories of people who have died from the disease of drug addiction in locations around the country. Alabama is the twelfth state to hold an exhibit with five additional states scheduled in 2025. The mission is to change the conversation about drug addiction through the power of original art and story. The exhibition, entitled Drug Addiction: Real People, Real Stories, Continuing the Conversation, consists of 41 copies of original graphite portraits of people who have died from drug addiction/poisoning in the state where the exhibition is held. A professionally written narrative about the lives of the individuals in the exhibition accompanies each portrait. The original professionally framed portrait and a catalog of the narratives of each of the individuals in the exhibition is gifted to the family of the deceased at the end of the exhibition. The Alabama original exhibit is currently being hosted by the University of South Alabama through June, 2025.
This particular exhibit is a high-tech duplicate on aluminum that will travel throughout the central and northern parts of Alabama. The opening reception will be held Mon., Nov. 4, 4-7 pm. Regular gallery hours for this event will be Tues-Fri. 2:30-5:30 pm and Sat. 10-2 pm. Additional information can be found at IntoLightProject.org.
