Sister Mary Florence Thomas Zanders, born October 2, 1940, in Greensboro, Alabama, passed away on November 12, 2024, at Hale County Hospital in Greensboro. She was 84 years old.
Mary was the daughter of William and Carrie Thomas. She was a member of Mount Olive Methodist Church from a young age and dedicated her life to service, exhibiting her faith through her care and compassion for others. She graduated from Hale County Training School and spent her career working as a compassionate caregiver, known for her patience and generosity.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, including Rebecca Slatton, David Thomas, Ernest Thomas, Ruby Scott, Elmer Thomas, Mary Alice Thomas, Fred Thomas, William Thomas Jr., John Thomas, and Carrie Weatherspoon. Her sonin- law, Vincent Todd, and grandson, Farron Todd, also preceded her in death.
She is survived by her loving daughter, Sherrill Todd; a bonus daughter, Lynette Phillips Wagner; and grandchildren Boris (Schnecka), Brandon, Shana, Dana, and Christopher Todd. Her greatgrandchildren include Boris “Tysa,” Reagan Todd, Albee Roberts, Maya Shavon, Nakayla, and Shanice Keaton. Additionally, she is survived by four great-great-grandchildren; a loving sister-in-law, Catherine Thomas; a special niece and caretaker, Linda Thomas; and two dear friends, Abalene Hearns and Marie Marshall. She leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, November 23, 2024, at Washington and Paige Chapel in Greensboro, Alabama, at 11:00 a.m. Bishop Steven C. Moore, pastor of New Life Missionary Baptist Church, officiated. Interment followed at a family cemetery.
