On March 13th, the Francis Marion Track and Field team kicked off its season opener strong at the University of West Alabama for the Demopolis Invitational. A total of 43 athletes joined Coach Bolding at the track to put all their hard work on display.
The ladies placed 4th out of 12 teams in the varsity division, while the men took a 5th place finish in varsity. The men’s team was missing several players due to a baseball game, and many of the male athletes—who also play baseball—participated in only the first half of the race before leaving early for their game.
Individual standout performances for the varsity division are as follows:
- Ke’Lashia Shelton placed 3rd in the 100M, 2nd in the long jump, and 2nd in the high jump
- Antasia Moore placed 2nd in the 100M hurdles
- Michael Hopkins placed 1st in the 110M hurdles
- Jamarian Essex placed 2nd in the 800M
- Wesley Kynard placed 2nd in the javelin
- Damien Harris placed 3rd in the javelin
- Jeremiah Kynard placed 3rd in the 400M
For the junior varsity division, Amari Woods placed 1st in the 400M and 3rd in the javelin, Yasmine Murphy placed 2nd in long jump, and Jeremiah Kynard placed 3rd in the 100M.
The Running Rams will compete again at Greensboro High School on March 30th. Come out and show your Rams some support!
