Perry County Sheriff’s Office to receivenew patrol vehicle through state grant

The Perry County Sheriff’s Office will receive $44,170 in state grant funding for a new law enforcement vehicle, part of approximately $1.14 million in grants awarded by Gov. Kay Ivey to law enforcement agencies across Alabama.

The grants, administered by the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs (ADECA) using funds from the U.S. Department of Justice, are intended to help smaller police and sheriff’s departments purchase new equipment or replace aging supplies.

Many smaller police and sheriffs’ departments perform their sworn duties to protect and serve while dealing with tight budgets and aging equipment,” Ivey said in a statement.

Perry County was one of 26 agencies statewide to receive funding. Nearby Bibb County received $49,957 for Tasers and new duty weapons for its sheriff’s department, while Barbour County received $50,000 for new computers and printers for patrol vehicles and office personnel. The city of Carrollton in Pickens County received $50,000 for a new patrol vehicle.

Adeca Director Kenneth Boswell said the grants help ensure that public safety officers are properly equipped.
