Alphonse Ashe

Alphonse Ashe died Jan. 29 at UAB Hospital in Birmingham at the age of 59. He was born May 28, 1962 to Ms. Rosie Ashe and the late Fred Ashe in Tuskegee.
He confessed Christ at an early age at Holly Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Crenshaw, Miss. He later joined Mt. Horeb Baptist Church in Newbern. He attended Dunbar High School in Chicago and later went to Northwest Mississippi Community College in Senatobia, Miss. for his associate of arts degree.
He worked for 28 years as a truck driver, a career that led him to meet many people, giving them encouraging words along the way.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Pearl Ashe; father, Fred Ashe; and an uncle, Tommy Ashe.
Survivors include his loving and caring mother, Rosie Ashe; three brothers, Tony Ashe of Chicago, Fred Ashe Jr. and Albert (Anettte) Ashe, both of Lansing, Mich.; two sisters, Connie Ashe of Gallion and Connie (Darin) Dislike of Lansing, Mich.; children, Marie Collins (Nicholas, Sr.) Williams of Chicago, Alshunza Hawkins of Eutaw, Donte Barney of Chicago, and Steven Ashe of Crenshaw, Miss.; four stepchildren, Terry and Perry Smith and Kiterra and Marque; five grandchildren, Zamahree Babers, Donte Barney Jr., Perry Smith Jr., Da’Quan Crawford Collins, Nicholas Williams Jr. and Markell Williams; four uncles, Jessie (Gerline) Witherspoon of Chicago, Robert (Mel) of Marion, Frank (Louise) Ashe of Lansling, Mich., and Rozell Ashe of Mobile; one aunt, Lula Witherspoon of Chicago; a god sister, Rosa (David) Sanders Finch of Gallion; two sisters-in-law, Joyce Ashe of Robinsonville, Miss. and Melinda Stone of Chicago; two devoted friends, Patrevias Taylor and Terry Rucker; a loving and devoted friend, Tina Hutton and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held graveside on Saturday, Feb. 5 at Curry Grove Cemetery in Newbern with Pastor Calvin Johnson officiating and Washington and Paige Mortuary directing.
