Marion’s summer youth baseball league is off to a good start, going strong

Marion’s Youth Baseball League began contests this past Monday at the ball park on Magnolia Street. There has been a strong turnout so far among the community as people came out to take in some baseball and watch their little ones play. Viewers of all ages filled the bleachers and some brought their lawn chairs and set up next to fences. The weather was excellent and the fans were lively, shouting encouragement and offering advice to the young players. There was a concession stand selling snacks to the fans and players and kids warming up on the other baseball field.

There are three teams. Some nights are tripleheaders and others are double- headers. This Thursday there was a triple header with a double header the next day. There is a Tee Ball team, a 7-8 year old team and a 9-10 year old team. The teams play on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Tee ball is 5:45, the 7-8 year old game begins at 6:45 and the 9-10 year old game is at 7:45.
