STEM camp for Black Belt students will return this summer to Tuscaloosa

Blackbelt Scholars STREAM Summer Camp for west Alabama students will return this summer. In addition to Science, Technology, Reading/ Language Arts, Engineering, Entrepreneurship/Financial Literacy, and Math, organizers have added an ACT consultant to the team as well as Dual Enrollment as a focal point for high school scholars.

The camp will be held at Stillman College. The students will participate in classroom instruction from 9:00 – 2:00 p.m. each Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday beginning July 5-July 28, 2022. At this time, Thursdays are set aside for academic field trips.

The first field trip is to Huntsville, AL where scholars will tour NASA Space Center, Drake Community College, and Alabama A&M University. Scholars will also visit Shelton State Community College and Wallace Community College.

Last year, 128 scholars from Tuscaloosa County, Greene County, Hale County, and Sumter County participated in the various sites. We are prepared to welcome 128- 135 scholars this year with a retention of 92% of scholars returning for a second year.
