Southern announces calendar for upcoming 2022-2023 school year

For the first semester, beginning Thursday, August 4, there will be an open house for students and parents beginning at 4:30 PM and ending at 5:30 PM. The first day of school for students will be August 8, with it being a half day, students will dismiss at 11:30 AM. September 5, there will be no school in observance of the Labor Day holiday. October 10 will also be a school holiday, recognizing Columbus Day. On November 7, there will be a Professional Development Day, where students will not be in attendance. Then on November 11, school will be closed in observance of Veterans Day. The students will then dismiss from November 21 to November 25 for the Thanksgiving holiday. Midterm exams will be from December 13 to December 15, with each day being a half day and students dismissing at 11:30 AM. From December 16 to January 2, 2023, Southern Academy will be closed for the Christmas holidays. The first semester will total 87 days.

The second semester will begin with a full day of school on January 3, 2023. There will be no school on January 16, 2023 in observance of the Martin Luther King, Jr. national holiday. February 20, 2023, school will be closed for President’s Day. From March 20 to March 24, students will be on Spring Break. Following that, there will be no school April 7, 2023, in observance of Good Friday. Final exams will begin May 15 and run through May 17, with each day being a half day where students are dismissed at 11:30 each day. Graduation is scheduled for May 18, 2023, at 6:30 PM. The second semester will total 89 day, bringing the total number of days for the academic year to 176 days.
