Southern announces new head coach

Through its social media channels, Southern Academy announced last week that Brian Osborne has joined the school as its new head football coach. The announcement read as follows:

Please join us in welcoming new head football coach Brian Osborne and his family to Greensboro. He and his family are moving here from Phenix City, AL. In his over 20-year career, he has coached a variety of varsity, middle school, and community sports. He has been a Head Varsity Football Coach for the last 12 years and was an Athletic Director for 6 years.

Coach Osborne played college football and baseball at Rhodes College in Memphis, TN, where he earned a BA, and he holds a master’s degree in Athletic Administration from Ohio University.

As Head Varsity Football Coach at Calvary Christian School in Columbus, GA, he led his team to: 1 State Championship win, 1 State Runner-up finish, 3 Final Four finishes, 4 Region Championships, and 12 playoff appearances. Additionally, he was honored to be selected as an all-star head coach 5 times, Fellowship of Christian Athletes Male Coach of the Year (2015), and Sportsvisions Football Coach of the Year (2020).

Coach Osborne is known for his strong ethical standards, strategic abilities, steady temperament, and deep care for each one of his athletes. He always hopes to impart not only greater skill in sports, but greater character to become good citizens, employees, spouses, and parents.

In the classroom, Coach Osborne is a beloved teacher who has taught High School American Government, High School Economics, Middle School Pre-Algebra, and 7th Grade Math. He was twice selected as the Columbus Ledger Enquirer Favorite Teacher Award winner (2019 and 2021).

His wife, Rosie, is a Facebook Advertising Specialist, and he has 3 children: Leanne (13), Larry (12), and Ron (9) who all love to play sports and will be students at Southern.
