United Flower Shop, a Marion institution for eight decades, will close this week

Marion is bidding farewell to a longtime retailer, United Flower & Gift Shop. In an announcement posted to social media, Lyn Royster, who took over the business from her grandmother, said, “I’ve lived a true once in a lifetime opportunity to do what I love by serving all of you.” United has been in the Sprott family since its foundation by Martha Sprott Richardson, who died in 2001.

“UFS has been an iconic part of the Marion community for 80 years,” Royster wrote, “but all good things eventually come to a crossroads.”

The business offered floral arrangements and embroidery services to patrons in Marion and the surrounding area for the better part of a century. Starting today, Thursday, November 16, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., customers will be able to purchase inventory at clearance prices.
