Sammy Ray Ragland

Sammy Ray Ragland, age 64, of Tuscaloosa, Alabama passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday February 21, 2024. Funeral services were held at Jennings Chapel Methodist Church in Northport, AL on Tuesday, February 27, 2024 at 2:00 pm. Visitation was held from 12:30 pm – 2:00 pm in the church sanctuary. Burial immediately followed in the Jennings Chapel Methodist Church Cemetery.

Sammy was preceded in death by his father, Marion Ragland.

Sammy is survived by his wife of 22 years Robin Hinton Ragland, son Nick Ragland, stepson Colby Partin (Sydney), mother Merilyn Kynard (Ren), Grandson Leo Partin, brothers-in-law Brian Hinton (Heather), Jeremy Lawson, nieces and nephew and his brother from another mother, Mike Woods “Kynard”.

Sammy made friends everywhere he went. He enjoyed traveling with his wife Robin and dog Chip, riding and promoting motorcycle events with his son Nick and fellow members of the Perry Mountain Motorcycle Club, strengthening his relationship with Christ each week at Jennings Chapel Methodist Church, working on his parents’ farm and most recently babysitting his grandson, Leo.

Sammy worked for 20 years as a Fixer at Phifer Wire. He made a lot of friends at Phifer and has told so many humorous stories from his days of working there.

Sammy later worked at Mercedes Benz in paint and quality for 19 years. He enjoyed his time at Mercedes and was proud to be part of the Mercedes team. He retired from Mercedes in April, 2023.

Throughout his career, Sammy always showed an unparalleled level of dedication to his job, and most importantly, his fellow coworkers with whom he shared so many long days and good laughs.

While we are deeply saddened that our time with Sammy is over, we are so thankful for the time we had with him and can’t wait until we meet again. In the meantime, his smile and funny stories will forever remain in our hearts.

Honorary Pallbearers were Greensboro High School Class of 1978, Members of Jennings Chapel Methodist Church, Members of Perry Mountain Motorcycle club and employees of Phifer Wire and Mercedes Benz that worked with Sammy.

Pallbearers were Bryant Anderson, Bruce Dunkin, Daryl Fondren, Jeff McKinney, Randy McKinney, and David Pierce.
