Marion installs new pump at water treatment station

The City of Marion Water Department installed a new high service pump at the city’s Water Treatment Plant this week, requiring a brief shutdown of water service while the work was completed.

The city notified residents in advance that water would be cut off between 3:30 and 4:00 p.m. on the day of installation. The pump, which pushes water into the distribution system, was set in place using a crane. Marion Water and Sewer System Updates and Projects, a public Facebook page that documents ongoing work on the city’s infrastructure, posted photos of the installation.

The department also reported this week that crews are cleaning out the main sewer line on Highway 5, work that has surfaced decades of accumulated debris from the aging system.

Marion’s water and sewer infrastructure has faced persistent challenges in recent years. The new pump installation represents one of several ongoing efforts to address reliability and performance problems that have at times left residents without service.
