Data center town hall tonight in Demopolis

A town hall meeting on a proposed data center in Marengo and Hale counties will be held on Thursday, April 30, at 6 p.m. at The Hangout, 117 E. Washington St., Demopolis.

Representatives from the Alabama Rivers Alliance and the Southern Environmental Law Center will be present to discuss the potential impacts of data center development in the region, as well as how community members can make their voices heard.

The event is being promoted by BlackBelt Women Rising and the Black Warrior River Watch, and refreshments will be served.

The town hall comes amid a growing statewide debate over data center development. The Bessemer City Council recently voted to rezone 914 additional acres for a proposed $14 billion hyperscale data center known as Project Marvel. Similar concerns regarding water use, environmental impact, and transparency have emerged in communities across the state.
