Perry County Schools is asking parents and others who have concerns about a child’s development to contact the school system through Child Find, a statewide effort to locate, identify and evaluate children with disabilities from birth through age 21.
Child Find is a program of the Alabama State Department of Education and the Alabama Department of Rehabilitation Services. Early intervention and special education services work with community agencies, parents and local school systems to locate children who may have a disability and connect their families with the services, resources and support the child may need. Early identification, the school system said, can make a difference.
Eligibility areas include hearing, vision, and speech and language impairments, specific learning disabilities, autism, developmental delay, intellectual disability, orthopedic impairment, other health impairment, emotional disability, traumatic brain injury, deaf-blindness and multiple disabilities.
Parents with concerns about a child’s development, learning, speech and language, hearing, vision or other areas may contact Dr. Theresa King at Perry County Schools at 334-683-6528, ext. 53013, for children ages 3 through 21.
For children from birth through age 2, the statewide Child Find line is 1-800-543-3098.
