Leory Nathaniel “Nate” Walker of Uniontown died Saturday, Aug. 8. He was 43.
Family members and friends say Walker was struck by a vehicle and left without aid. No agency had confirmed the circumstances of his death by press time. The Times-Standard-Herald left telephone messages with the Uniontown Police Department on Monday and Tuesday and emailed the department Tuesday requesting information and any available reports, but had received no response as of press time.
What is not in question is what Walker meant to his hometown. By Monday, tributes had filled Facebook feeds across Perry County and beyond under hashtags including #JusticeForNate and #RIPNateWalker. Post after post remembered a man the whole town knew, a fixture at family reunions, at social gatherings, at the store and at the annual Footwash festival, quick with a joke and quicker to dance. “Everybody loved Nate Walker,” one woman wrote. A friend wrote that Uniontown wouldn’t be the same without him.
“To know cousin Nate is to love him,” a cousin wrote.
Another relative described a prank Walker and a friend pulled on him at the Footwash years ago that ended with the two of them hugging, laughing and crying on the ground, and said he later had the word “Fearless” tattooed on his neck because of Walker.
A sister wrote that she lost her mother five months ago and has now lost her baby brother.
Funeral arrangements were incomplete at press time and are being handled by Glenn White Funeral Home of Uniontown. The Times-Standard-Herald will publish Walker’s obituary and service information when they become available, and will continue to seek information from authorities about the circumstances of his death.
