Joe Phillip Horne

Joe Phillip Horne, 86, died October 15 after a sudden, brief illness.

He was born May 3, 1940, in Heiberger to David Boyd Horne and Alma Duke Horne. Joe grew up as the youngest of seven siblings, surrounded by loving parents, extended family, and many stories told on the front porch. Those early years shaped the hard work ethic, generosity, and steadiness he carried throughout his life.

Joe built a life centered on a deep love for his family, farm, garden, and animals. He could repair almost anything, including sewing machines, tractors, and lawnmowers. He loved working with his hands, deer hunting, sharing his garden’s bounty, the outdoors, and a funny story.

He was preceded in death by his parents, David Boyd Horne and Alma Duke Horne; three brothers; and three sisters.

He leaves behind his wife of 62 years, Edna Crews Horne; daughters Carol Warren and Becky Culp (Darryl); two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Visitation was held Tuesday, October 20, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Rockco Funeral Home in Centreville. A committal service followed at 12:30 p.m. at Bethlehem United Methodist Church Cemetery in Marion. Tim Horne, Mike Horne, Brady Horne, Derek Duke, Jay Toney, Shane Brown and Chandler Morrison served as pallbearers.

Rockco Funeral Home of Centreville directed.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his honor to Bethlehem Methodist Church, care of Norma Elkins, 186 Steele St., Centreville, AL 35042.
