The Rt. Rev. Richard T. Lawson III, bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Alabama, celebrated the annual homecoming service at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Prairieville on Sunday, Oct. 18. Parishioners from more than nine Episcopal churches across the Black Belt filled the church to overflowing, the diocese said. One person was confirmed and another was received into the Episcopal Church during the service. The parishes represented included: St. John’s, Forkland; St. Paul’s, Greensboro; Trinity, Demopolis; St. Wilfrid’s, Marion; St. Mark’s, Boligee; St. Stephen’s, Eutaw; Holy Cross/St. Michael’s, Uniontown/Faunsdale; and St. Paul’s, Carlowville. Lawson was consecrated in June as the 13th bishop of Alabama. St. Andrew’s, built in 1853 and consecrated in 1858, is a National Historic Landmark and is used for occasional services.
