The Friends of Hale County Library are set to host their final library lecture of the year, an event that promises to highlight the richness of literary talent rooted in the Black Belt. The featured guest is Salaam Green, an accomplished poet, educator, and healer, who is also a native of Greensboro, Alabama. The lecture will take place on December 14 at 4:00 PM in the Project Horseshoe Farm Ballroom, located at 1202 Main Street in Greensboro.
Green, who was named the inaugural Poet Laureate of Birmingham, Alabama, has been recognized for her exceptional contributions to the literary arts. She is also the 2024 Literary Arts Awardee, an honor underscoring her impact on poetry and storytelling. A proud graduate of Greensboro High School, East Campus, Green remains closely connected to her hometown, with her family still active in the area.
This event will feature Green’s discussion of her celebrated chapbook, Once Upon A Magic City, and provide insights into her journey as a writer, healer, and advocate. With works published in prominent outlets such as the Alabama Arts Journal, the Southern Women’s Review, and the Black Joy Anthology, Green has established herself as a leading voice in Alabama’s literary community.
In addition to her literary achievements, Salaam Green is the founder of Literary Healing Arts, a Certified Listener Poet, and an artist in residence with the University of Alabama at Birmingham’s Arts in Medicine program. She is also a racial healer through the Kellogg Foundation and is preparing to debut her full-length poetry collection in 2024 with Pulley Press.
