Two recent arrests at the Perry County Jail highlight ongoing efforts to address the issue of contraband within the detention facility. Authorities charged De’Andre Lamar Carr and Darryl Jerome Bates in separate incidents involving the alleged possession and promotion of contraband within the jail premises.
De’Andre Lamar Carr, 34, of Marion, was charged with three counts of promoting prison contraband in the third degree. According to the complaint filed on December 25, 2024, Carr, who was already incarcerated at the Perry County Jail, allegedly obtained and possessed three prohibited items: a gray Nokia cell phone with the serial number 400001520041112226, and two black cell phones. Carr was booked and remains in custody pending further court proceedings.
In a separate incident, Darryl Jerome Bates, 36, of Newbern, was arrested on December 30, 2024, and charged with promoting prison contraband in the second degree. Authorities allege that Bates, while confined at the Perry County Jail, unlawfully obtained or possessed a controlled substance. According to court records, the substance was categorized under Title 20, Chapter 2 of the Alabama Code. Bates’s bond was set at $3,000, and his case is scheduled for a call docket hearing on February 4, 2025.
