Rams’ track team fills podiums at Wetumpka meet

The Francis Marion Running Rams track and field team competed at the Water Under The Bridge track meet at Wetumpka High School on April 9th. The Rams found themselves filling multiple podium spots as will hopefully be the norm for the team for the remainder of the season. The following athletes received medals for their outstanding performance: Lionel Hinton placed 2nd in the shot put and 3rd in the discus, Le’- Naya Essex placed 3rd in the 1600 meter race (mile), Jeremiah Martin placed 3rd in the high jump, and Ke’Lashia Shelton placed 2nd in the middle school 100m dash and 3rd in the middle school 200m dash. The team had one 1st place finish in the middle school 100m hurdles, Antasia Moore, however she was unfortunately disqualified for stumbling into another lane after clipping the last hurdle. Moore is only a 7th grader and would’ve been top 5 in the high school division. Ke’lashia Shelton and Antasia Moore are both only 7th graders, but they outrunning most high schoolers at all the races. These two young ladies will have a very bright future in track and field. Expect multiple state championship finishes from these two before they graduate from Francis Marion.
