Theresa Burroughs Residential Living, Inc. has become the first state-approved home for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in Greensboro, receiving approval from the Alabama Department of Mental Health.
The facility, which serves women, was established in 2022 by Toni Love, the youngest daughter of the late Theresa Burroughs. Love became a caregiver to her oldest sister Paula in 2019, and through her work with the intellectual and developmental disabilities community, came to recognize a critical need for quality caregivers and caretakers, particularly in rural areas.
In conjunction with this milestone, the organization’s Board of Directors will host its 2nd Annual Caregivers Appreciation Day on Saturday, March 28, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Hale County College and Career Academy, 19875 Highway 69, Greensboro. The event is free and open to the public.
The event was established to recognize caregivers in the Greensboro community and surrounding areas, including registered nurses, certified nursing assistants, licensed practical nurses, sitters, and family members or friends caring for a loved one.
The organization is partnering with the Hale County College and Career Academy for the event, with support from Director Dr. Marlon Murray, Health and Science Instructor Tiffany Parker, and Cosmetology Instructor Pam Duncan. Duncan has a personal connection to the mission—she was the primary caregiver for her mother before her mother’s passing. Students from both departments will also participate in the event.
Vendor spaces are available for $25. For more information or to register, visit tbrl.org.
