Charles Lightsey

Charles Arthur Lightsey, known to family as “PawPaw,” passed away at the age of 82 on March 4, 2022 in Bessemer, Alabama. Charles was born April 17, 1939 in Birmingham, Alabama to Arthur and Mattie Lightsey. He had six siblings. Charles graduated from McAdory High School in 1957. After graduation he spent three years in the Army. After the Army he married Alice and they had two children, Sandra, and Eddie. Alice passed away in 1991. Charles moved to Perry County Alabama where he lived with his wife of almost thirty years, Billie Lightsey. Charles was a big part of his community and a deacon at Hopewell Baptist Church. He was known to everyone as “PawPaw”. Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Mattie and Arthur; his son, Eddie; his brother, Howard, and his sisters, Mary Daw, and Lena Mills. He is survived by his brothers, Jimmy (Lori) Lightsey, and David Lightsey; his sister, Joann Owens; his daughter, Sandra Waldron; his granddaughter, Andrea (Kevin) Boutain; his great grandchildren, Brook and Lane Boutain. Charles will be missed by everyone who knew and loved him. A memorial service will be held for Charles on Saturday, April 9th, 2022 at Hopewell Baptist Church in Marion Alabama.
