Stillman awards over $500k in scholarships to Francis Marion students in one day

Justin James, communications director and recruiter with Stillman College in Tuscaloosa, could barely conceal his excitement on Tuesday, and with good reason.

He had come to Perry County, to Francis Marion School, to make a huge announcement: more than half a million dollars in scholarships for local students.

“Today is by far the greatest day I have had as a recruiter,” James posted to his Facebook account Tuesday after making the presentation. “Francis Marion’s scholars did not come to play.”

James awarded 33 scholarships to Francis Marion students, totaling $516,000. He thanked FMS principal and Stillman alum Bruce Jackson, as well as FMS senior counselor Allison Taylor for their work at the school.

The record-setting announcement will provide opportunity to some of Alabama’s most deserving young scholars.
