Marion business owner indicted on illegal possession of bank card

Monique M. McGaughy, 40, of Marion, Alabama, has been indicted on a charge of illegal possession of a credit/debit card. The Perry County Circuit Court case was filed on June 28, 2023, based on an arrest made on March 28, 2022.

The case originated in Perry County District Court last year.

McGaughy was released from jail on the same day as her arrest, following a bond of $5,300. Tacara Lee Sabir has been appointed as her defense attorney.

The charge, illegal possession of a credit/debit card, is classified as a property- related felony under Alabama law. Further court actions and proceedings in the case are yet to be scheduled.

According to the case filing, McGaughy was indicted on June 14, 2023. The case has been assigned to Judge Collins Pettaway, Jr.

According to the criminal complaint filed at the time of McGaughy’s arrest, she is charged with fraudulently using someone else’s preloaded NetSpend card to make several withdrawals at ATMs in Marion, as well as CashApp transactions.

McGaughy, at the time of her arrest, was the owner of The 334 Connection, a business located on Highway 5 in Marion.
