Mississippi man indicted, set for arraignment for embezzling from Berean Baptist Head Start

The case against a former employee for embezzling from Berean Baptist Head Start employee has moved from Perry County District Court into Perry County Circuit Court following an indictment on Nov. 29. The defendant in the case, Travis Powe, 57, of Waynesboro, Miss., is charged with using bank routing and account numbers belonging to Berean Baptist Head Start to purchase items over the internet. The purchased items were allegedly valued in excess of $2,500.00. Court documents charge that Powe made the purchases over a six-month period, from May through October of 2022. Powe was arrested on the charges on June 12, 2023.

The case was assigned to Circuit Judge Marvin Wiggins on Dec. 14, 2023, and Powe is set for arraignment on Jan. 23, 2024.
