Lucille Long Owens

Lucille Long Owens was born on February 5, 1934, in Tuscaloosa, Alabama at DCH Regional Medical Center to the late Rev. Willie James Long, Sr. and Erma Copridge Long. Lucille confessed Christ at an early age and joined Bethel Baptist Church, where she served faithfully until her health precluded further service. She was a devoted matron of the church, maintaining her faith and service throughout her life.

She married Edrich Owens, and they were blessed with three children: Edrich Stanley Owens, Darrel Lynn Owens, and Juanita Michelle Owens. Lucille graduated from Industrial High School in Tuscaloosa and pursued further education in Cosmetology. She was employed by the State of Alabama at Bryce Hospital, dedicating 29 years to her role as a Mental Health Supervisor II before her retirement.

Lucille was an avid sports fan, cheering for Serena and Venus Williams, Alabama Football and Coach Nick Saban, and Tiger Woods. She was also a proud supporter of Barack and Michelle Obama, and enjoyed her friendships with her church and family dearly.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her daughter, Sharon L. Owens of Tuscaloosa; her brother, Maurice Long of Columbia, South Carolina; her grandchildren, Elizabeth Owens Grimsley, Erika Nicole Owens, and Edrich Skylar Owens; and her greatgrandchildren, Madelynn Grimsley, Hannah Grimsley, Aiden Grimsley, Joel Grimsley, Rebekah Grimsley, Sara Katherine Grimsley, and Benjamin Grimsley, all from Tuscaloosa. Lucille also held dear her special cousins, Mabel McBride, Horace Copridge, Jr., and Johnny B. Washington, Jr., among a host of other relatives and friends.

Preceding her in death were her parents, her brother Willie James Long, Jr., and three children.

Her life was celebrated in a service on Saturday, February 24, 2024, at 11:00 A.M. at Bethel Baptist Church, located at 3003 25th Street, Tuscaloosa, Alabama, with Reverend Dr. Schmitt Moore officiating.
