Woman dies in wreck on Hwy. 80 near Perry County line

A single-vehicle crash at approximately 5:08 a.m. Monday, May 23, has claimed the life of a Brantley woman. Brenda G. Powell, 56, was fatally injured when the 2016 Kenworth tractor-trailer she was driving struck a tree that had fallen onto the roadway. Powell was not using a seat belt at the time of the crash and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The crash occurred on U.S. 80 near the 99 mile marker, approximately 10 miles west of Selma, in Dallas County. Nothing further is available as Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Highway Patrol Division continue to investigate.
