Rosa Benson, known as “Barose,” died August 10 at DCH Regional Medical Center in Tuscaloosa at the age of 77.
She was born January 16, 1945 in Hale County to the late Clara and Joe Fields. She confessed Christ at an early age and later joined Friendship Missionary Baptist Church in Akron.
Survivors include three nephews, Albert Benson of Moundville, Leodis (Barbara) Benson of Akron, and Albert Tubbs of Huntsville; four nieces, Carolyn Madison and Dorothy Benson of Tuscaloosa, Gloria (James) White of Akron, and Mary Tubbs of Tuscaloosa; a special nephew, Dewayne Benson; a devoted cousin, Obadiah (Virginia) Benson of Sawyerville; three special sisters, Carolyn Benson and Rosemary Benson of Brunswick, N.J., and Ida Mae Johnson of Sawyerville; and a host of great nieces, great nephews, cousins, and friends.
Funeral services were held Saturday, August 13 at First Baptist Church in Akron with Pastor Billy Thornton, church pastor; Pastor Robert Johnson, Eulogist; Sister Brenda Bester, Mistress of Order; and Washington and Paige Mortuary directing.
