Perry Co. Board of Education sues West Ala. Bank over $26,000 in unauthorized checks

The Perry County Board of Education has filed a lawsuit against West Alabama Bank and other unidentified parties for alleged negligence in handling the School Board’s bank accounts.

Attorney Robert H. Turner filed the suit in Perry County Circuit Civil Court on Wednesday, Feb. 7.

According to the complaint, from June 2023, the bank processed checks without the required signatures of authorized individuals. Some of these checks had duplicate numbers of previously issued, authorized checks, according to the complaint. The Board claims this breach of duty resulted in a loss of $26,000 and is seeking recovery of this amount plus interest and costs.
